Found in coniferous and mixed forests, woodland edges, clearings and other habitats with dead conifer wood.
Adults feed on pollen and nectar and are commonly on flowers, especially umbellifers and bramble.
The larvae develop in dead stumps, roots, logs and the lower trunks of conifers, such as Abies sp., Larix sp., Picea sp. Pinus sp. and Pseudotsuga menziesii.
