Found in a wide range of moderately moist habitats, such as deciduous and mixed forests, hedgerows, woodland edges, gardens, parks, grasslands and farmland.
A fast-moving predator, feeding on slugs, insects and worms.
The larva is also predatory and lives in the soil and leaf litter.
